Offline POS Software for Retail Businesses

Offline POS software keeps a shop's tills taking sales when the internet connection fails. Aevornix POS runs the whole business from a file on the shop's own computer, so selling, stock, shifts, reports and double-entry books continue with no internet and no Aevornix server.

What happens to a cloud till in an outage

Many point of sale systems keep the business's catalogue, stock and sales on a provider's servers. Some offer a limited offline mode, but it often restricts what staff can do until the connection returns. For a shop, the busiest moments are exactly when a broadband fault hurts most. Our guide do you need internet for POS software explains the different approaches.

Aevornix POS

How Aevornix POS stays up

The business lives in a file on the shop's computer rather than on a remote server. When there are several tills, they share one business through a Local Hub on the shop network or a Sync Bridge on the merchant's own server. Each till holds its own complete copy, so if the hub is unreachable the till keeps selling, and the sales merge when it reconnects. Document numbers include each till's own code, so two tills never issue the same number.

  • Selling, refunds and shifts, with manager approval for discounts, price changes and refunds.
  • Stock as a movement ledger, with purchasing, transfers and counts.
  • Double-entry books with trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet.
  • Receipts for 58 and 80 mm printers, and reports exported to PDF, CSV and Excel.
  • Encrypted, verified backups and restore onto a new computer.

Card payments and limits

Card payments go through a payment provider, and the till never handles card numbers, CVV or PINs. A card payment through a provider naturally needs that provider to be reachable; cash and manually recorded payments do not. PayPal is not supported. Foreign currency cash is accepted at rates the owner sets, with no rate fetched from the internet.

Who it suits

Aevornix POS is built for small shops: independent retailers with one till, shops with two or three tills on one network, and small chains with a few branches that want to share one set of records through a server they control. It suits owners who want stock and books in the same records as their sales, and those whose broadband is not reliable enough to bet the till on.

It is not built for online selling, for large chains that need central hosted management across many regions, or for businesses that depend on PayPal. Those needs are better met elsewhere, and the comparison pages say so.

Comparing offline POS systems

When comparing, ask what works during an outage, where the data lives, what the monthly costs are and how several tills stay consistent. See Aevornix POS and Square, alternatives to Square POS and our guide to choosing POS software. For the cost side, read POS software without monthly fees.

Frequently asked questions

Can Aevornix POS take sales with no internet at all?

Yes. Selling, stock, shifts and books run on the shop's computer. Card payments through a provider need that provider to be reachable; cash sales do not.

What happens when two tills sell while disconnected?

Each till keeps its own complete copy and keeps selling. When they reconnect to the hub, their sales and stock movements merge.

Where is the shop's data stored?

In a business file on the shop's own computer, with encrypted backups wherever the owner chooses.

Does it track stock too?

Yes. Stock is kept as a movement ledger with purchasing, transfers and stock counts. See offline inventory management.
