Why stock belongs with the till
Stock figures are only as good as the sales and deliveries behind them. When the till and the stock system are separate services, they drift, and when one is offline the other goes stale. Keeping stock in the same system as the till means every sale moves stock at the moment it happens. Our guide what is inventory management software covers the basics.
Inventory in Aevornix POS
How stock is recorded
Aevornix POS records every change to stock as a movement, and balances are derived from those movements rather than overwritten. A sale, a delivery or a count is a single transaction that either commits in full or not at all. Completed movements cannot be edited or deleted; a correction is a reversal, so the history stays intact. Stock adjustments need the right permission or a manager's PIN, and each one is audited with the approver.
Cost is tracked by weighted average cost, and purchasing, supplier records and stock counts sit alongside the till. With several tills, stock merges when tills reconnect to the hub: the integration tests include two tills selling while apart and ending with the same stock after merging.
Use cases
It suits shops that want stock and sales in one place, on their own machines.
- Independent shops with one or two tills.
- Shops with unreliable broadband.
- Retailers with more than one branch sharing a hub they control.
- Owners who want stock, cost and books in the same records.
Stock counts and corrections
A stock count records what is actually on the shelf. The difference between the counted figure and the figure the system expected is recorded as a movement of its own, with an approver, rather than as a silent overwrite. Over time, that record shows where stock goes missing and which adjustments were approved by whom.
Because completed movements cannot be edited, the history is a reliable record for the owner and for whoever keeps the books. Weighted average cost means the value of stock on hand follows what was actually paid for it, and the books in the same file reflect the same figures.
Limits and comparisons
Aevornix POS is built for small shops and runs on Windows. It is not a warehouse management system for large distribution operations. For a wider view, see POS software that works offline and our guide to POS and inventory. Business owners weighing costs can read POS software without monthly fees.
Frequently asked questions
Does stock update while the shop is offline?
Yes. Stock is in the same business file as the till, so each sale moves stock at once, with or without internet.
Can staff change stock figures freely?
No. Stock adjustments need the permission or a manager's PIN, and each is audited with the approver.
How are stock mistakes corrected?
With a reversal or a return. Completed stock movements cannot be edited or deleted, so the history stays complete.
