Choosing how to pay for audio software
Audio software ranges from free open source editors to subscription suites. A one-time licence sits between them: paid once, with features aimed at performance and measurement that basic editors lack. Whether it suits you depends on what you record and how you work.

What makes AudioDJ different
Meters read the audio that actually passed through the engine rather than a prediction, and an export is reopened and measured before it reports success. Loudness agrees with ffmpeg to within 0.04 LU. Plugins are scanned in separate processes so one that crashes during a scan cannot cost you your work. Nothing is sent over the network while you record, edit, mix, export or save.
What it does not do yet
AudioDJ is an open beta. Decks, beat grids, tempo and key detection and controller mapping are not built, so it is not a DJ deck application yet. Pads and scenes are played live and are not part of an export. Publishing to online destinations is not built. A plugin that crashes while running takes the application with it.
Who it suits
AudioDJ suits musicians and producers building tracks from their own recordings, podcasters who need to hit a loudness target, and performers who prepare pads, scenes and a running order before a show. Its sampler plays your own recordings the moment a pad is pressed, whether or not the transport is running, with choke groups so one pad can cut another.
If you mainly need a free editor for quick cuts, a free tool may be enough. If you need DJ decks and controller mapping today, AudioDJ does not have them yet.
Compare and licence
See AudioDJ and Audacity compared and Audacity alternatives. The offline audio editor page covers working without a connection. AudioDJ is a one-time purchase under the licence tiers.
