Price and platforms

The Audacity team states that Audacity is free for everyone and open source, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. AudioDJ is a paid one-time licence and runs on Windows 10 and 11 only.

What AudioDJ adds

AudioDJ is built for producing and performing as well as editing: eight banks of sixteen sampler pads with choke groups, scenes that recall part of the mix, live set running orders with a readiness check, and loudness measured to ITU-R BS.1770. Exports are reopened and measured before they report success.

It is an open beta. Decks, beat grids, tempo and key detection and controller mapping are not built, so it prepares a set rather than driving decks.

Where each fits

  • Audacity fits recording and editing on any operating system at no cost, with a large community and an optional cloud companion.
  • AudioDJ fits Windows producers and performers who want pads, scenes, set preparation and measured loudness in one offline application.
